From Orange Seeds to God’s Firmament: Why Biblical Cosmology Matters More Than Science

Growing up in the East End of London, being the youngest of four boys meant I constantly had to question what was real. Like many children, I often took my older brothers at their word. One day, while enjoying a juicy orange, I crunched down on a few seeds. My eldest brother jokingly told me an orange tree would now grow inside me. I panicked. Then cried. Truly, I believed I was about to become a walking tree. But then my mum, with her calming voice, assured me gently, “Son, you’re fine. Nothing will happen.” Now my daughter will eat every orange in the fruit bowl, leaving none for the rest of us. It’s her favourite fruit.

Looking back, I realise that moment was more than just a funny childhood story—it taught me the powerful impact of truth over deception. The same applies to what we believe about the world we live in, especially when it comes to biblical cosmology and the flat earth truth found in Scripture.

Biblical Cosmology: God’s Design Clearly Revealed

The Bible’s cosmology is not abstract or hidden; it is direct, intentional, and glorifying to God. In Psalm 19:1 (NKJV), David declares:

“The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork.”

The firmament is not symbolic poetry—it is a clear, foundational part of God’s creation narrative. Biblical cosmology speaks of a solid, structured heaven above, waters above the firmament, and the earth established firmly below. This is not just beautiful language; it is theological truth. Look at Exodus 20:4 (NKJV);

“You shall not make for yourself a carved image–any likeness [of anything] that [is] in heaven above, or that [is] in the earth beneath, or that [is] in the water under the earth;

Flat Earth in Scripture: What Does God Actually Say?

Modern science teaches us about a spinning globe, infinite space, and expanding galaxies. But Scripture never describes the earth that way. In fact, from Genesis to Revelation, the flat, enclosed earth model is consistently affirmed.

God’s word never lies—unlike my brother’s orange seed tale. God describes the earth with purpose and accuracy. He spoke about the firmament, the waters above, the pillars of the earth, and a stationary sun and moon. If we truly believe in the inerrancy of Scripture, we cannot dismiss these descriptions as mere metaphor.

Why Biblical Cosmology Affects Your View of God

Understanding how God created the cosmos is more than a scientific debate—it’s a spiritual alignment. Jesus said in John 17:17 (NKJV):

“Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.”

When we reject what God says about the world He created, we risk reshaping God in our own image. That is dangerous. The truth about the flat earth and the firmament leads us to a clearer view of who God really is—majestic, precise, and trustworthy.

Breaking the Lies: Renewing Your Mind by the Word

Just like I had to unlearn the orange-seed lie, we all must unlearn the lies of scientism—memes, theories, and philosophies that contradict God’s Word. Paul writes in Romans 12:2 (NKJV):

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…”

The Word of God cleanses us from falsehood. The truth about creation—from the firmament to the shape of the earth—guides us back to the God who made it. It reminds us that God spoke clearly and intentionally. We must listen, obey, and teach others to do the same.

Conclusion: Listen to God, Not the World

The shape of the earth is not just a detail—it reflects the character and intent of the Creator. Dismissing the biblical cosmology is like accepting the orange seed story all over again. We have God’s Word. Let’s trust it completely. Let’s teach our children to do the same.

Only God’s Word, through His Holy Spirit, can break the deception and bring us into truth. No meme, no scientist, no textbook will do what Scripture has already done.
