Biblical Dependence Assured: Why God’s Word Is Our Foundation

Post by

When you see the Raqia Resources emblem of assurance, you are seeing more than a mark on a worksheet. You are seeing a commitment to the authority of God’s Word.

At Raqia Resources, we believe that Scripture must be the foundation upon which our understanding is built. It is the standard by which our ideas are examined, our questions are formed, our arguments are tested and our conclusions are reached.

That is why we have established our emblem of assurance: Biblical Dependence Assured.

These words express a conviction that shapes everything we do. We do not approach the Bible as a supporting reference for ideas we have already accepted. We begin with God’s Word, allowing what He has revealed to guide our understanding of His creation and our place within it.

Scripture Is Our Starting Point, Not Our Supporting Evidence

There is a significant difference between beginning with Scripture and using Scripture to support a position we have already decided to defend.

When we begin with our own assumptions, we can easily select verses that appear to support us while overlooking passages that challenge our thinking. We may become so invested in defending an argument that we forget to ask whether our argument is faithful to God’s Word.

Biblical dependence calls us to a different approach.

dependence
/dɪˈpɛnd(ə)n(t)s/

Dependence is the state of needing someone or something continuously to function, survive, or avoid discomfort

We must first ask what Scripture says, examine the passages in their context and allow the Word of God to establish the foundation of our understanding. Our questions should arise from a desire to understand what God has revealed, not simply from a desire to win an argument.

This is particularly important when we explore biblical cosmology. Questions about the sun, moon, stars, earth and firmament are not merely opportunities to debate competing explanations. They are opportunities to examine what the Creator has told us about His creation.

At Raqia Resources, we want children and parents to develop the habit of opening their Bibles, reading carefully and taking God’s words seriously.

Our resources are designed to support that process, giving families practical ways to engage with Scripture, explore its teaching and build their understanding upon a biblical foundation.

When Scripture Speaks, We Have a Foundation

Consider the account in Joshua 10:12–14. Joshua spoke to the LORD, and the sun stood still.

The passage gives us a reason to examine what Scripture says about the sun and its movement. We do not need to begin by asking how the account can be made to fit a modern scientific model. We can begin by reading the passage and considering what it actually records.

Or consider 1 Kings 18:41–45. Elijah’s servant went up to look towards the sea and reported seeing a small cloud rising from it. Soon afterwards, the sky grew dark with clouds and wind, and heavy rain followed.

This passage provides an opportunity to explore the biblical account of rain, clouds and the sea. Rather than treating the Bible as an incidental reference in a lesson about the water cycle, we can begin with the event God has recorded and examine the connections within the passage.

Job 38:31–33 offers another example. God questioned Job about the Pleiades, Orion and the ordinances of the heavens. These questions direct our attention towards the stars, the constellations and the order of God’s creation.

In each instance, Scripture gives us a starting point for investigation.

The purpose is not to force every passage into a modern scientific category, nor to pretend that every question can be answered immediately. It is to recognise that God’s Word deserves our careful attention before we build our understanding around human explanations.

We study these things because Scripture speaks about them, and we want our understanding to be shaped by what God has revealed.

Building, Challenging and Debating Upon God’s Word

Biblical dependence does not mean that we stop asking questions. It means that we ask better questions from a firm foundation.

We can challenge an interpretation and can examine a claim. We can compare explanations and discuss apparent difficulties or investigate the world around us and consider what our observations mean.

But our discussions must remain accountable to Scripture.

When an argument is presented, we should ask which passages support it and whether those passages have been understood faithfully. When an explanation is offered, we should examine its assumptions rather than accepting it simply because it is popular or presented with confidence.

And when we discover that our own reasoning has been mistaken, we must be willing to correct ourselves.

This is an important distinction. Our interpretations, arguments and explanations are not infallible. We are capable of misunderstanding a passage, overlooking a detail or drawing a conclusion that the text does not establish. The authority belongs to God’s Word, not to our ability to explain it.

For this reason, the emblem is not a declaration that every human statement made by Raqia Resources is beyond question. It is a declaration of the standard to which our teaching must be held.

We want our work to encourage thoughtful examination, honest discussion and a willingness to return to Scripture whenever a question arises.

The aim is not simply to produce arguments that sound convincing. It is to cultivate a deeper respect for the Word of God.

Why We Believe This Matters for Our Children

Children are constantly learning how to distinguish between truth, opinion and assumption. The foundations we establish during their formative years influence how they approach questions long after a particular lesson has ended.

If we teach children to accept an explanation simply because an authority figure has presented it, we have not equipped them to examine claims carefully. Equally, if we teach them to accept every claim made by someone who shares our Christian convictions, we have not helped them develop discernment.

We want to teach them to return to Scripture, read it carefully, recognise what it says and understand why it matters.

This is one reason biblical dependence is central to the resources we produce.

A worksheet should be more than a collection of questions to complete. A game should be more than an activity to occupy a child’s attention. A book should be more than information to remember.

Each can become an opportunity to engage with God’s Word, consider His creation and develop a lasting habit of biblical examination.

That is what we seek to provide through Raqia Resources: practical, engaging materials that help parents teach their children from Scripture rather than leaving them to navigate difficult questions without suitable support.

We want children to grow in confidence, not because they have memorised a collection of arguments, but because they are learning to recognise the importance of God’s Word as the foundation of their understanding.

God’s Word Is Infallible, Inerrant and Authoritative

Our commitment to biblical dependence rests upon what we believe about Scripture itself.

Raqia Resources holds to the historical, conservative Christian faith, including a firm belief in the inerrancy of Scripture. As stated in our Statement of Faith, we affirm the Bible to be the inspired, inerrant, and the only infallible and authoritative Word of God.

These convictions are foundational to our work.

We believe Scripture is not merely an ancient collection of religious reflections that can be accepted where it agrees with contemporary opinion and set aside where it does not. It is God’s written Word, deserving our trust, reverence and submission.

This belief has practical consequences for how we teach.

We must not alter the meaning of a passage to make it more acceptable to a prevailing idea. We must not dismiss difficult passages simply because they challenge our existing understanding. Nor should we claim that Scripture says something it does not say.

Biblical dependence requires care, humility and a willingness to distinguish between what the Bible explicitly states, what we infer from it and what remains uncertain to us.

We will not always have every answer. But we can remain committed to the authority of the Word through which we seek those answers.

Our confidence rests ultimately in the faithfulness of God, not in our own wisdom.

God Must Receive the Glory

There is a reason this commitment matters beyond the accuracy of a lesson or the strength of an argument.

God must receive the glory.

When we study creation, our purpose should extend beyond satisfying our curiosity or proving another person wrong. We are considering the works of the Creator, whose wisdom and power are far greater than our own.

Psalm 19:1 (NKJV) declares:

“The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork.”

Creation directs our attention towards its Creator. Our study should therefore lead us to acknowledge Him rather than elevate human knowledge as the ultimate authority.

We can spend hours investigating a subject and still miss the greater purpose if our attention becomes fixed entirely upon winning a debate.

At times we can accumulate information without growing in reverence.

We can become confident in our arguments while forgetting the humility that should accompany our dependence upon God.

At Raqia Resources, we want our work to point beyond the resource itself. We want it to encourage families to read Scripture, recognise God’s authority and give Him the honour that belongs to Him.

Whether we are exploring the sun in Joshua, the cloud in Elijah’s account or the constellations in Job, our ultimate concern is not simply what we can learn about creation. It is how our understanding responds to what God has revealed.

The knowledge we gain should serve our appreciation of the Creator, not become a substitute for Him.

What the Emblem Means for Every Raqia Resource

When you see the words Biblical Dependence Assured on a Raqia Resources product, they express the foundation upon which we seek to build our work.

They represent our commitment to:

  • Begin with Scripture. God’s Word is the foundation of our teaching, not an afterthought.
  • Examine claims carefully. Questions, arguments and explanations should be considered in the light of Scripture.
  • Handle God’s Word faithfully. We must respect the context and meaning of biblical passages rather than force them to support our assumptions.
  • Encourage biblical understanding. Our resources should help children and parents engage meaningfully with the Bible.
  • Remain humble. Our interpretations can be mistaken, and we must always be willing to examine our understanding again.
  • Give God the glory. Our work exists to serve families and point them towards the truth and authority of His Word.

This is the standard we want our resources to reflect and the commitment we want families to recognise.

The emblem does not promise that every question will be easy or that every discussion will end without disagreement. It assures you of the biblical foundation to which our work is committed.

Built Upon the Word That Stands Forever

At Raqia Resources, our desire is to help families build their understanding of God’s creation upon the foundation He has given us.

We recognise that questions will arise, discussions will continue and our understanding will require careful examination. Through it all, Scripture must remain our standard.

We do not place God’s Word beneath human opinion, nor do we ask it to earn its authority by agreeing with the latest explanation. We approach it as the inspired, inerrant and authoritative Word of God.

That is why we have chosen to place this commitment on our resources.

Biblical Dependence Assured.

Three words that express the foundation of our work, the standard by which our teaching must be examined and the conviction that guides our approach to biblical education.

May everything we produce encourage families to know God’s Word, trust His truth and glorify Him in their understanding of His creation.

“The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever.” — Isaiah 40:8 (NKJV)
