Scripture Before Research | A Biblical Cosmology Diet

  1. Joshua’s Command to Meditate on God’s Word

Joshua 1:8 says:

“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”

To meditate is to give careful, intentional thought to something. It is to dwell on it, speak about it, and allow it to shape the way we think and live.

The question every believer should ask is simple:

What are you meditating on?

When the Search for Truth Becomes an Obsession

Many of us who have discovered biblical cosmology and questioned the mainstream narrative have spent countless hours researching Flat Earth, conspiracies, hidden history, and deception.

We sift through books, documentaries, memes, online groups, experiments, and videos because we recognise that we have been lied to in many areas. Faithful men and women have invested enormous amounts of time producing resources that help expose deception and encourage others to seek truth.

But have you ever noticed that the search itself can become addictive?

Do you constantly feel the need to dig a little deeper? Watch one more video? Read another article? Follow another theory? Does your social media feed become filled with endless variations of the same discussions?

The desire to know the truth is good. The danger lies in allowing the pursuit of information to replace meditation on God’s Word.

A Lesson in Moderation

My fifteen-year-old son recently needed a root canal.

A root canal is a dental procedure that removes infected tissue from inside a tooth in order to save it from extraction. The reason he needed one was simple—he never learned to moderate his sweets.

We would often tell him:

“Son, sweets are enjoyable in moderation, but they’re not meant to be eaten like a bag of popcorn.”

He would agree.

We warned him that too much sugar would damage his teeth.

He understood.

Yet eventually we found ourselves sitting in the dentist’s chair while he endured a painful procedure that could have been avoided.

It became a life lesson about indulgence and moderation.

Our Minds Need a Healthy Diet Too

Spiritually, we can fall into the same trap.

Conspiracy research often stimulates our curiosity. Every SpaceX launch, Blue Origin announcement, NASA claim, or scientific headline can tempt us to spend hours analysing, debunking, and discussing it.

There is value in exposing deception.

There is value in honest experiments and careful investigation.

But I have also discovered that it is possible to binge on this material.

When that happens, my mind slowly drifts away from the pure Word of God. Instead of building my thinking upon Scripture, I begin building it upon constantly shifting opinions and theories that may later prove to be incomplete—or simply wrong.

The Subtle Danger of Endless Research

As believers, we naturally want to understand God’s creation.

The problem is not the desire to learn.

The problem is how we pursue that knowledge.

Most of us were trained to accept information because someone appeared to be an authority. School, university, television, documentaries, and experts all conditioned us to trust the source rather than verify the truth.

Ironically, we can repeat the same mistake after leaving mainstream science.

We watch videos, read books, and consume endless memes explaining biblical cosmology.

Many of these resources are excellent.

Some are not.

How do we know which is which?

How did the author reach their conclusions?

Could we unknowingly exchange one deception for another?

Humility Protects Us

We must honestly admit that we do not know everything.

Some experiments are convincing.

Some evidence is compelling.

Other questions remain unanswered.

There are still many moments where the only honest response is:

“I’m not sure.”

Or:

“That’s a good question. I don’t know.”

I have learned to finish those sentences with another thought:

“…but to God be the glory.”

Even when we do not know, He does.

Sometimes God chooses to reveal.

Sometimes He chooses to conceal.

The Only Foundation That Never Changes

When I was younger, I spent eight to ten hours each day researching conspiracy theories.

Countless hours disappeared on YouTube, websites, and online articles.

Eventually I reached an uncomfortable conclusion.

I could no longer confidently distinguish between truth and deception.

That is the difficulty of living in a world where genuine truth is constantly mixed with lies.

So where do we stand?

After more than twenty years of walking with Jesus and being born of His Spirit, I have found only one place where my soul truly rests:

The Word of God.

There I find no uncertainty.

There I find no shifting opinions.

There I find no changing narratives.

Only the unchanging truth of Yahweh.

This reflection was inspired while reading Joshua’s command to meditate continually upon God’s Word.

Let Scripture Shape Your Understanding of Creation

We should not drift like a car with poor wheel alignment, spending all our mental energy absorbing debates, memes, and arguments about creation.

Instead, we should meditate first upon what God has already revealed about His creation.

Teachers will come and go.

Researchers will make mistakes.

Popular voices will eventually pass away.

Yet Scripture reminds us:

“The word of the LORD stands forever.”

Supplements Are Not the Diet

Watching informative videos and reading thoughtful books certainly has its place.

They can encourage us.

They can challenge us.

They can help us think more carefully.

But they are supplements.

They are never the main diet.

The primary diet for every believer must always be the holy, set-apart Word of God.

Scripture alone is inerrant, infallible, and completely authoritative in matters of faith, practice, and our understanding of creation.

Whenever it speaks about the created order, it speaks with authority that surpasses every scientist, every researcher, every influencer—and even our own opinions.

Where Does Your Mind Dwell?

Joshua tells us to meditate on God’s Word day and night.

That command has never changed.

So perhaps the question is not simply whether we are seeking truth.

Perhaps the deeper question is:

What are we feeding our minds every day?

If your spiritual diet has become dominated by conspiracy research—even good research—it may be time to restore God’s Word to its rightful place.

Let Scripture become your daily bread.

Let it shape your understanding of creation.

Let it renew your mind.

Where do you need to change your diet?
