Opinion vs. Revelation on Flat Earth Study
Trust Scripture, Not Your Own Wisdom
When we seek to know the Lord and understand Yahweh’s ways, we must submit to the full authority of the Holy Scriptures. Relying on our own understanding can lead us seriously astray.
Imagine diagnosing your car’s engine by trial and error without the manufacturer’s manual—turning bolts and making adjustments based on guesses. You’d rightly call that foolish. So why apply this method to God’s creation?
Usually, it’s our own prideful assumptions that trip us up spiritually. Reflect on a time when your opinion led you astray. The Bible, when rightly understood, shows us how to live in alignment with God’s heart.
It’s easy to fall into this pattern. Over the last two decades as a believer, I’ve repeatedly fallen into remixing God’s Word with my own guesses. But by God’s grace, He gently brings me back to submit completely to His revealed truth.
Lessons from Job: Knowing Creation
In Job 38, God confronts Job amid suffering:
“Who is this who darkens counsel by words without knowledge? … Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth?”
Job 38:1–4
God reminds Job—and us—how limited our understanding is compared to the Creator. Even today, science tells us that around 81% of species remain undiscovered—a humbling reminder of our dim knowledge versus God’s infinite comprehension.
Creation as God’s Standard
God begins His correction with creation’s foundation. Genesis 1:2 picks up “after” establishing the earth’s foundations—underlining creation’s integral role in His sovereign design.
Likewise, when delivering the Ten Commandments, God framed His authority by recalling creation: “You shall not make for yourself a carved image … anything in heaven above, or in the earth beneath, or in the water under the earth.” Exodus 20:4
Every time we’re tempted to form opinions counter to Scripture, we’re challenged to trust the Holy Spirit’s guidance through the divine instruction manual, not human theories.
Psalm 139:6 reminds us: “Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is high, I cannot attain it.”
We cannot grasp everything—and that’s by design. When we fill silences in Scripture with our own cemented views, pride leads us astray. Isaiah 28:29 reminds us: “This also comes from the LORD of hosts, Who is wonderful in counsel and excellent in guidance.”
Heliocentrism: A Modern Example
The heliocentric model paints a picture of creation that God never intended us to conclude. When elevated into doctrine, it becomes a modern form of sun worship—creating distance between us and our Creator.
Guesswork and speculative models can also suppress our relationship with God, let us beware. Instead, let Scripture guide us: it is “sharper than any two-edged sword” (Hebrews 4:12). God’s Word discerns between truth and deception, opinion and revelation.
Choose faith over opinion and avoid the trap of speculation. Reduce the weight of opinion. Don’t let institutions or ideas redefine God’s creation. Remember Proverbs 3:5–6:
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”
What will you choose to lean on—your own understanding, or God’s unchanging Word?

Thank you Danielle, glad this could be an encouragement to you as your words are to us.
